With the restrictions in place at present time, you are probably like me and hauled up with cabin fever waiting to get out on the ground in perfect detecting weather. I am currently stuck in SA until travelling to the West is an option again.

The steady hum of the SDC reminded me of the buzz of a mosquito, yet it was somehow quite soothing. I was full of anticipation as I carefully moved down the creek, but also not particularly confident. I really thought that I had found all the nuggets from this patch.

I had a recent prospecting trip out East from Kalgoorlie with a friend that had never been detecting before. We spent 5 days detecting and two days traveling.

It was a Friday morning and I decided I was going detecting in the Echunga Goldfields at Chapel Hill. A controlled burn off had been done to get rid of the vegetation that was preventing access to the gold bearing areas, I knew this would be a great time to go detecting. I got my Minelab SDC 2300 ready and fitted the 14×9 Gold Extreme Coiltek coil, this is a magnificent coil which I have found some great pieces of gold with.

I have spent the last 8 years detecting in Castlemaine and I had concluded that there was no big gold left. I kept going back with hope that I had missed some ground and that I would find something.

My Dad tried his hardest for many years to get me into detecting but with a busy lifestyle including a young family and a high maintenance job meant that the time I had to myself was slim so I had no chance to go out and detect with him.
