My name is Matthew Stabeusz, I am 30 years old and live in Snake Valley Victoria, I love the hobby of prospecting for gold and relics around the Ballarat and surrounding areas, I have a GPX6000 and run a Facebook page called Red Hill Prospecting, I am out detecting and least 3 times a week and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!

What interested/attracted you to buy your first metal detector?

Seeing videos of other prospectors out enjoying the hobby, loving the bush and outdoors it was the perfect hobby and after I got my first detector I was hooked!

When did you first use your Coiltek coil, and what was the experience like for you?

I got the 10×5” Goldhawk when I brought my 6000 about 6 months ago and was amazed by the sensitivity and depth on the coil, a game changer! Now recently moved to the 9” Goldhawk and also an amazing coil, very impressive coils!

How has metal detecting benefitted your lifestyle?

Spending the time out in the bush and with great mates has been very good for physical and mental health, it’s a quiet, peaceful place to unwind and enjoy!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to start metal detecting?

Don’t rush into it as there is a lot to learn, speak to people for advice and do lots of research and you can do well.

What has been your most significant experience or find to date?

Some nice nuggets over a gram is my best so far, nothing big yet! And a fair few old silver coins and Penny’s, but hopefully more great finds to come!

The love of the bush and finding hidden treasures
